03 Jan The DDD Group Difference: How Drone Technology Elevates Our Projects
DDD Group continues to push the boundaries of innovation in the construction industry by embracing cutting-edge technologies. Recently, we deployed our cutting-edge DRONE MATRICE 350, a game-changing innovation equipped with LiDAR capability for precise scanning, powered by a ZENMUSE camera and a high-precision GNSS station, to conduct an existing conditions survey of a property in Culebra.
This innovative approach proved particularly valuable in Culebra, a remote island municipality of Puerto Rico, where the challenging terrain and limited accessibility posed unique obstacles that often hinder traditional surveying methods.
“The drone technology was a huge success in this project,” says Alexandra Wirshing, DDD Director of Design. “It allowed us to overcome the logistical challenges. By utilizing the drone, we efficiently and accurately captured the necessary data, ensuring the highest level of precision in our design and construction plans.”
LIDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, employs laser pulses to accurately measure distances and create a precise “point cloud” property model. This point cloud provides an incredibly detailed 3D representation of the site, including its topography, existing structures, vegetation, and other features.
“By integrating this advanced technology into our design-build process, we can significantly enhance accuracy and efficiency,” says Humberto Donato, DDD Group President. “The point cloud data provides our teams with unprecedented detail, enabling them to make more informed decisions throughout the design and construction phases.”
Emilio Tirado, our BIM/VDC Technician, expertly piloted the drone and processed the collected data. His expertise, along with the crucial role played by Alexandra Wirshing in overseeing the project and ensuring its successful integration into the overall design process, instills confidence in our team’s capabilities.
This project highlights DDD Group’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve project outcomes. The data collected from the drone survey will be invaluable for the design team, allowing them to accurately assess site conditions, optimize building placement, and minimize potential construction challenges.
At DDD Group, we are at the forefront of technological advancements in the Puerto Rican construction industry. We embrace innovation and foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that our projects benefit from the latest technologies and methodologies. This unwavering commitment to technology and innovation is deeply ingrained in our corporate culture and is a key differentiator for DDD Group.
We invite you to explore our innovative approach and discover how DDD Group can bring your next project to life.
