Honoring DDD Group’s Exceptional Women in Construction

As Women’s History Month unfolds, it’s an opportune time to reflect on the remarkable contributions of women in various industries, including construction. At DDD Group, we take pride in recognizing and celebrating women’s invaluable role in solidifying our firm’s reputation and enhancing our impact on our community as the preferred Design-Build partner.

Despite historical challenges, the playing field has gradually become more equal, allowing women to thrive in traditionally male-dominated fields like construction. “Initially, women occupied a supportive role in the construction industry, as in most professions,” explains Alexandra Wirshing, Director of Design at DDD Group, ‘Little by little, women have proven to be as capable as men, making that field increasingly equitable in responsibilities and leadership.” DDD Group is proud to be at the forefront of this movement, actively working to level the playing field and create a supportive environment for all team members.

Throughout our journey, we have been fortunate to have an exceptional team of women who have helped propel DDD Group’s design-build expertise to new heights. From architects to project managers, these game changers bring a unique perspective and skill set, enabling us to deliver remarkable projects across diverse sectors. Regarding how DDD’s leadership has supported their contributions, Assistant Project Manager and Architect I Wilmarie Ortiz states: “I believe that inclusion and the constant intention to stay at the forefront distinguishes us. It has allowed us to grow constantly and stay in tune with the technological advances directly impacting our industry.”

At DDD Group, we understand that talent flourishes in environments that foster growth and empowerment. We are committed to designing and building a supportive ecosystem that nurtures all team members’ professional and personal development. This has been the case with our own Nicole Santiago. “The work environment at DDD has always supported my professional growth since I started 14 years ago as a “Document Control Clerk” and now to an “Architecture Job Captain & Architect 3,” she warmly reflects, “I would say that the most impactful support for my professional growth has been working as a team. The input and collaborative dynamics we are exposed to daily make me grow as a professional, enrich me with information, and I feel that it has led me to constant growth.” By providing opportunities for growth and advancement, we can empower our team to reach their full potential.

Our architects are not just builders; they are visionaries who foresee more than just a structure’s appearance—they consider its functionality, efficiency, and impact on the community. DDD Group President Umberto Donato sums up what his team has accomplished: “Their unwavering drive and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in the success of projects ranging from industrial designs to highly regulated federal and state initiatives. They are at the heart of what drives us as an organization.”

The construction industry continues to flourish, and we look forward to seeing future generations join this illustrious group of women effecting change. Our team echoes the words of our Architect II, Geraldine Pérez, who advises: “For women who wish to venture into the field of design and construction, I would recommend that they educate and prepare themselves, seek mentors, do not be afraid to challenge stereotypes, and develop confidence in their skills and abilities.”

Together, we embrace the power of teamwork and collaboration to deliver exceptional results, and we are proud to stand alongside our talented women and the many more to come.
