Project Overview

  • The scope of work included the turnkey design and construction of the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van facilities in Carolina Puerto Rico.

  • Built to comply with Mercedes-Benz (MBUSA) Design Guidelines

  • Phased – Fast Track approach permitted the design and construction of required improvements, while allowing the continuous and uninterrupted operation of the facility.

Under a two-phase design-build approach, DDD was hired to design and build the improvements required to comply with the Mercedes-Benz (MBUSA) Design Guidelines. Under the contract, DDD had to incorporate a 6,200 sf workshop addition to house additional workshop area. As part of the Scope, DDD was required to also design and build a new substation and electrical service infrastructure to provide enough capacity for the new facilities and any future expansion.

The workshop areas were built using a structural steel system covered with a combination of cement plastered concrete block and metal siding. The building included the use of overhead sprinklers, fire and smoke detectors over the whole facility. As on the other jobs, multiple energy conservation methods were used including natural ventilation and lighting controls to maximize the use of daylight. DDD self-preformed 60% of the work.
