For this project, DDD provided Design-Build Services in order to address the necessary repairs required to correct existing deficiencies identified in the Comprehensive Annual Inspection under NPDES Permit at Lilly Pharmaceutical’s PR6 Plant located in Guayama, Puerto Rico. The storm water system at the site had deteriorated throughout the years resulting in final grading and drainage slopes to be modified by the erosion and sedimentation of the grass swales. The cumulative effect of the sedimentation and erosion, caused soil to be accumulated under the grass surface, raising its height and resulting in puddles within the drainage system. These puddles not only signaled that the storm water system was not performing as designed but also brought other concerns due to stagnant water in the puddles.

 

In order to address these issues, DDD designed and implemented a solution under a Design-build approach that was able to restore the PR6 storm water system in the areas identified for corrective action. Under the implemented solution, DDD removed the existing ground surface and restored the grading per original design and planted new grass surfaces. In addition, DDD restored levels at existing box culverts by removing soil covering these box culvers, restored the grading per original design and planted new grass as necessary. Additional repairs were performed at the existing concrete channels and bridge in the contractor parking.
