Project Overview

  • Hurricane Rebuild at USCG Base San Juan

With more than 100 years of presence in Puerto Rico, the US Coast Guard has been keeping the Eastern Caribbean safe and secure. This base and the wide area of responsibility became the 10th Coast Guard District during World War II and was then absorbed into the Seventh Coast Guard District and renamed “The Greater Antilles Section” (GANTSEC) in 1945. GANTSEC and Marine Safety Office San Juan were combined and restructured into Sector San Juan in September of 2004 and Base San Juan in May 2019.

In September 2017, Hurricanes Irma and Maria caused extensive damage to facilities and infrastructure at Base San Juan.

The project scope includes utilities infrastructure and resiliency improvements, and construction of consolidated mission essential buildings at Base San Juan. The work includes resiliency improvements to the water storage supply and emergency power for the entire Base. In addition, new construction includes a 40,000 square-foot Multi-Mission Building that will be home to the Sector Command Center, Station, Aids to Navigation Team, and Armory, front gate entrance, shoreline armored revetment, and boat ramp.
