Project Overview

  • 4-story, 52,100 sq. ft. concrete & pre-cast Institutional building in Bayamon, PR.

  • The project included impact resistant glass systems which protected stained glass artwork on major openings, including curtain glass walls and major skylights. Pre-Cast panels covered a 100% of the building envelope drastically increasing construction speeds.

  •  Cost reduction strategies included the use of an alternate design for the building’s foundation system in order to permit the use of shallow foundations in lieu of a more costly deep foundation system which might have been required due to the presence of soft soils in part of the structure.

Designed and built by DDD, the project consisted in the demolition and replacement of an existing facility in order to house the new Student Services and Administration Building for Caribbean University in Bayamon. The project consisted of ground level parking, green areas and a 6 story cast in place concrete structure. At the basement, the facility housed the university’s central data center. An additional 4 levels office and student services spaces occupied the upper floors. At eh top level, the design included a roof terrace and a clock/bell tower. The building’s interiors included very high end finishes, including floor to ceiling marble cladding, extensive millwork and high end modular office systems. Multiple sustainability strategies were incorporated. Some of these strategies included the use of high-efficiency A/C units, insulated glass panels and low-e and reflective glass.
