21 Oct Project Update: Construction Underway on New Pedestrian Bridge at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport

After years of anticipation, construction has finally begun on the long-awaited new pedestrian bridge at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU). DDD Group was on hand to be part of the ceremonial groundbreaking. This landmark project, designed by DDD Group’s talented architects, will significantly enhance passenger experience and connectivity within the airport terminal.

The new pedestrian bridge, connecting the multi-story parking garage to Terminal A, will facilitate access for over three million passengers who pass through the area annually. This ambitious project represents an investment of nearly $5 million and is expected to be completed by mid-2025.

Part of the elements considered in the design process was assuring an improved passenger experience.  The bridge will reduce transfer time for passengers between the parking area and the terminal, enhancing overall convenience and comfort.

Another vital factor was assuring enhanced accessibility.  Elevators will connect all parking garage levels to Terminal A, ensuring easy access for all passengers.

DDD Groups team didn’t allow functionality to minimize aesthetics, but they were able to create a modern design for the new bridge. The bridge design considers distinctive elements such as cross-ventilation, open-space lobbies, and functional lighting to enhance safety and aesthetics.

The design and construction of the pedestrian bridge resulted from a collaborative effort between Aerostar Airport Holdings, Del Valle Group, Benítez, Ramos & Associates (BR&A), and DDD Group. Our combined expertise and dedication have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
