30 May DDD Group Proudly Supports the Launch of Puerto Rico’s First RAP Apprenticeship Cohort
At DDD Group, investing in people has always been at the heart of our mission. We are proud to celebrate a significant milestone in Puerto Rico’s construction industry workforce development. Recently, our own Umberto Donato, President of the Workforce Development Committee of the AGC Puerto Rico Chapter, announced the launch of the island’s first Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) cohort. This initiative promises to transform the future of construction talent on the island.
At the 4th Annual Transportation and Highways Forum attended by industry leaders and education partners, AGC-PR shared that 44 apprentices, representing 10 companies across the construction sector, have officially begun their journey toward mastering essential trades. From carpentry to masonry to general labor and finishing work, these skills are critical for meeting the growing demands of our industry.
This program is made possible through a strategic partnership between the AGC Puerto Rico Chapter Workforce Development Foundation (Fundación de Desarrollo Laboral) and the One-Stop Career Center, supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). It combines technical instruction at Huertas Collegein Caguas and the Workforce Training Academy in Arecibo, with real-world mentorship and practical, on-site experience.
“This is a concrete step to address the urgent need for qualified labor in Puerto Rico,” said Umberto Donato. “We are thrilled by the commitment of our companies and the collaboration with institutions like Huertas College, One Stop Career Center, and the Workforce Training Academy.”
At DDD Group, we firmly believe that supporting apprenticeship programs is more than a responsibility — it’s a reflection of our culture. We have long championed in-house professional development and continuous learning, and we are proud to extend that commitment to a broader platform through initiatives like RAP.
By preparing the next generation of skilled workers, we are investing not only in our company’s future but in the sustainable growth of Puerto Rico’s economy and communities. The RAP program provides structured opportunities for adults from diverse backgrounds — many between the ages of 25 and 54 — who seek to enhance their technical skills, advance their careers, and contribute to the industry’s evolving needs.
As we continue to mentor, train, and build, DDD Group reaffirms our dedication to elevating the standards of the construction industry — and to ensuring that the opportunities we create today will pave the way for a stronger, more resilient Puerto Rico.
