Ciudad Lumen Becomes the First Multifamily Residential ‘Permiso Verde’ Project in Puerto Rico

The DDD team was extremely pleased to learn that Ciudad Lumen has recently been recognized by local regulating entities as a breakthrough sustainable housing project in Puerto Rico, by officially becoming the first Green Residencial, Multifamily use permit under the OGPe Green Permit Program. This innovative initiative is designed to promote sustainable construction practices and uses through the application of construction concepts that have a positive environmental impact.

“As an environmentally-conscious design-build firm, we are excited to jump at every opportunity to implement the most relevant and impactful green building strategies into high-visibility projects, such as this one,” added DDD Group President Umberto Donato.

Green Permits (or ‘Permiso Verde’) are awarded to forward-thinking projects that advocate for sustainability by maximizing energy efficiency and savings in maintenance and operation costs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions that are related to climate change, and extending the useful life of housing and other types of construction. Other milestones for the project include a reduction in drinking water consumption, an increase in the collection and reuse of greywater and rainwater, reduction in waste generation during construction and operation. “As an environmentally-conscious design-build firm, we are excited to jump at every opportunity to implement the most relevant and impactful green building strategies into high-visibility projects, such as this one,” added DDD Group President Umberto Donato. “Every accolade or special recognition strengthens our dedication and serves as a testament to our commitment to the environment. We are proud to put these initiatives to the best possible use by creating sustainable projects that considerably help the community and build more awareness.”

Ciudad Lumen was also recognized with the Green Permit for its features to improve the interior environmental quality, promoting occupant health and productivity, which is especially relevant in this housing project. The housing project stood out as well for its accessibility features designed to promote more efficient transportation alternatives. Join us in congratulating the DDD Design team for their efforts.
