FDA Campus Project Earns LEED Silver Certification

DDD Group is proud to share that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s new Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) building in San Juan has officially been awarded LEED Silver certification.

Though modest in size at 12,000 square feet, this “small but mighty” building reflects a significant commitment to environmental performance, featuring strategies that save energy, conserve water, and create a healthier environment for occupants.

Sustainability Highlights

  • Smarter Site Use: Rainwater management with permeable pavement, reduced heat island effect, and walkable surroundings.

  • Water Savings: Efficient fixtures and systems, plus building-level water metering.

  • Energy Efficiency: Optimized HVAC and lighting, renewable energy integration, and advanced metering.

  • Sustainable Materials: Use of products with transparency declarations and a waste management plan that reduces landfill impact.

  • Healthy Spaces: Low-emitting materials, quality lighting, and abundant daylight with outdoor views.

  • Innovation: Credits earned for design innovation, regional priorities, and leadership from a LEED Accredited Professional.

A Model of Purposeful Design

This certification underscores the value of integrating sustainability at every stage of the project. By combining energy efficiency, water conservation, and human-centered design, the FDA ORA annex sets a new standard for federal projects in Puerto Rico.

At DDD Group, we are committed to showing that every project — no matter the scale — can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future.
