30 Jun Developing the Future: How DDD Group Trains the Next Generation of Builders
In today’s construction industry, the shortage of skilled labor is more than a challenge — it’s a call to action. As experienced workers retire and fewer young professionals enter the trades, companies across Puerto Rico and beyond are being forced to rethink how they attract, train, and retain talent.
At DDD Group, we believe the solution begins from within. That’s why apprenticeship is not just a program, it’s a pillar of our company culture. Through hands-on training, structured mentorship, and classroom learning, apprenticeships provide a direct path for individuals to gain valuable experience while contributing meaningfully to real projects. It’s a model that bridges generational knowledge and creates career opportunities for those eager to learn and grow in a high-impact industry.
According to recent industry reports, the U.S. construction sector will need to hire over half a million workers above the normal pace in 2024 to meet demand. Puerto Rico faces this same pressure, and apprenticeship programs are one of the most effective ways to respond. As showcased in our latest video below, DDD Group has embraced apprenticeship as a strategic investment. We are proud participants in initiatives like the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), but our commitment to workforce development began long before RAP launched. For years, we’ve focused on building our in-house team through targeted training, mentorship, and educational support.
This includes the DDD Scholarship Program, which supports employees and their families in pursuing degrees and certifications that align with their career goals. This program reflects our belief that long-term success comes from empowering individuals with the tools and opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally. Our apprentices and scholarship recipients aren’t observers — they are active contributors. They work alongside experienced professionals, receive guidance from project managers, and gain exposure to real-world construction challenges. For many, it’s not just job training; it’s the start of a lifelong career.
This hands-on learning model benefits not only individuals but also enhances DDD’s entire operation. Apprentices bring curiosity, energy, and new perspectives to the team. At the same time, they help us ensure continuity of knowledge, preserve craftsmanship, and build a future-ready workforce.
At DDD Group, we’re proud to invest in people, because we know that our greatest resource isn’t just the structures we build — it’s the team that builds them.
