Historic Rehabilitation

This two story, Spanish Colonial Revival Style building built by the US Customs Service in 1927 became the 1st Customs House in Fajardo, PR. The rehabilitation of this project, Designed for Klein Engineering and the US Customs and Border Protection, included respecting and preserving historic elements throughout the building while incorporating a law enforcement agency program and design standards. Code compliance, a new HVAC system, new plumbing, electrical, new LAN room and physical security were among the design improvements included.
The Scope of Work required interior and exterior work as per SHPO (State Historic Preservation Office) standards required structural repairs to the façade and various structural elements, new aluminum impact/bullet proof fenestration and doors, ornamental ironwork, accessibility improvements, a fully engineered HVAC system, full electrical retrofit including power distribution and lighting, as well as a new LAN room, physical security equipment and infrastructure, including but not limited to, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, Public Address System, Access Control, Perimeter Security Fencing, as required by CBP Internal Affairs (IA) Security Management Division (SMD).
